16 Jun Annabelle Bonnéry is new Artistic Director
The board of Carte Blanche has appointed the French Annabelle Bonnéry as the next Artistic Director of the company, for a four-year fixed term contract, commencing 1 August 2018.
– Carte Blanche should be encouraged and led to play its role in the international and national contexts. My ambition is to establish Carte Blanche as ambassador of the dance scene and Norwegian contemporary culture in the international scene, to impulse the development of new opportunities in the relation between audiences and the company and to contribute to the development of the Norwegian contemporary creation, comments Annabelle Bonnéry.
Bonnéry began her career as a dancer in Spain with the Catalan choreographer Ramon Oller. With this first experience abroad, she joined the CCN of Grenoble/ J.C. Gallotta, and then she worked as dancer and assistant with the Portuguese choreographer Rui Horta for 15 years.
Meanwhile she met Maguy Marin Company and she joined them for the piece Umwelt, touring all over the world for four years. Her meeting with the gallerist François Deneulin marked the beginning of a creative process involving collaborations between choreography and visual arts, and others art fields and lead them to found Lanabel Company in 1998. She has produced a vast number of creations touring and performing throughout Europe – National theater of Chaillot in Paris, Dance Biennal in Lyon, Festival Oriente Iccidente in Italy – and she developed lately projects of cultural cooperation between France and Burkina Faso. She has been invited to create pieces for companies abroad, such as Staatstheater of Braunschweig, NorrDans in Sweden, WAPAA in West Australia and Scottish Dance Theater. Bonnéry was previously Rehearsal Director in the company from 2011 to 2014, under the direction of Bruno Heynderickx.
Carte Blanche received astonishing 68 applications for the position as Artistic Director, of which 15 from Norway. This leaves no doubt about the company’s importance as an important cultural body and a renowned brand both inside and outside of Norway.
The fixed term is four years and commences 1 August 2018 when Hooman Sharifi leaves.
