A full evening by the Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen

“The first step into the desert – the process – eliminates excess.  In the desert, nothing is superfluous, only necessity remains.” Bouchra Ouizguen

How do we survive in a group?
This was the question that immediately struck me as I watched the Carte Blanche dancers.
The next thing that was evident was the form of a circle, which remained outlined throughout, as though representing a self-contained intention.
Rotating on our own axis, orbiting others, gyrating, whirling and spinning to the point of exhaustion or intoxication, turning without end.
And so how do we set a course, keep to it, play our part, remain focused and allow ourselves to  be carried along amid this whirlwind without beginning or end? Bouchra Ouizguen

Through her distinctive use of dance, song and stage, Bouchra Ouizguen brings us into her world –inspired by her own cultural and musical education. With genuine passion, involvement and interpretative ability she shares her personal story, inviting us to visit an unfamiliar territory in the space between the desert and the stage. She shows us a place where unexplored streets, doorways and scents become recognizable. The dancers went to Marrakech in search of this place.
