Mia Habib appointed new Artistic Director of Carte Blanche – The Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance

The Board of Carte Blanche is pleased to announce the appointment of Mia Habib as the company’s new Artistic Director for the term 2027–2031. Habib will assume the position in spring 2027.

Following a thorough recruitment process with many strong candidates from Norway and abroad, the Board unanimously agreed on the appointment of Mia Habib as Artistic Director.

“We have great confidence that she will lead and develop Carte Blanche with artistic depth, curiosity and enthusiasm,” says Chair of the Board Per-Harald Nilsson.

“She has a strong foothold in the independent dance field, both nationally and internationally, and a deep commitment to the role of dance and art in society. We are convinced that she will further develop Carte Blanche as an institution and as a leading contemporary dance company, while opening up new opportunities for collaboration, exploration and artistic growth. With Mia, we gain an Artistic Director who will both challenge and strengthen the company in the years to come.”

Mia Habib has more than 20 years of experience in the dance field, including work as a dancer, choreographer and artistic leader. Her background spans both institutional contexts – including Carte Blanche – and the independent dance scene. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in choreography at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2003 and presented her first work, Missing In Action, at Dansens Hus in 2005. In 2011 she completed a Master’s degree in conflict resolution in Tel Aviv, a perspective that clearly informs her artistic practice at the intersection of dance, society and politics.
