Re~Percussion reimagined

by Stephan Meidell (NO)

Re~Percussion reimagined is a ritual where dance, film, and music entangle, affect, and resonate in new and wonder-evoking ways. It is a collaborative threefold experiment involving artists from six countries and four disciplines: part performance, part concert, and part exhibition. Re~Percussion reimagined is a happening, a site-specific exploration and the first event taking place on both stages in Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus: Scene Nord and Scene Sør.

Vibrating speakers, magnets, and projectors excite instruments and modulate the surroundings, causing objects to dance and strings to sing. A pump organ breathes, drums shake, and a grand piano howls. Hybrids of all kinds assemble and syncopate – resounding one another. The project explores the vibrant space between technology, performers and instruments.

Stephan Meidell is a critically acclaimed guitarist, composer, and researcher who explores the boundaries between electronic and acoustic sound through interdisciplinary collaborations. Based in Bergen, Norway Meidell is a musical synthesist and adventurer, uniting styles and idioms through improvisational gestures and refined design. His work exists where genres and disciplines dissolve into fragments and are recombined in unexpected ways.

His practice spans the full spectrum of sound – from traditional improvisation and dance commissions to experimental frontiers involving live sampling, electronics, and instrument modification with robotics and transducers. Meidell engages with electronic, acoustic, and electromechanical instruments, objects and machines, and then recontextualises them in new and surprising ways.

Meidell has released numerous albums and composed commissions for dance, theatre, and audiovisual collaborations.

Re~Percussion reimagined can be experienced as a sound-and-film installation the next day. Discovering remnants and following traces from the live show, performance artist Fernanda Branco encounters the transformed work with her body and voice, revitalising and reimagining it by bringing her unique artistic perspective.
